Research and Planning: Film poster analysis 1

Film poster 1: The Blair witch project
The genre is set by the dark colour of the background, the bottom of the poster is virtually black but then gradually gets lighter to a misty grey.  The misty grey is then complimented by the mise-en-scene of dark tall daunting trees in the background. This mise-en-scene gives the narrative of the story, as the young girl is wearing a beanie hat and is in a forest, this shows it is a camping film.  This also gives the target audience of 16 - 25 year old male and female.  This is because people of this age like to go camping and the character is of a similar age, this way the audience can relate to the characters. The extreme close up shows one of the protagonist.  This helps show the genre of a horror as she looks young, scared and worried.   This can also show the last girl scenario could occur in this film.   The font is wood-like to compliment the setting of the film and the little red logo.  The text is glowing white, which is a traditional horror affect.  The font at the top of the image of the girl says 'In October 1994 three students film makers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland while shooting a documentary'  This is complimented by the documentary type of text used. You can tell it is a film poster by the conventional steeltonges font they have used to put the cast and crew in.  They have also got the distribution companies and a website.
